2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (like oregano and basil)
½ teaspoon garlic powder
⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Once the yeast is activated, pour it into the well along with the olive oil (or melted butter). Mix until a dough begins to form.
Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
Shape the Breadsticks: Punch down the dough to release the air. Roll it out into a rectangle about ½-inch thick and cut into strips.
Second Rise: Cover the shaped breadsticks and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
