Ingredients
Scale:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup butter, chilled and cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk
Melted butter for brushing (optional)
Garlic herb seasoning (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
Add the chilled, cubed butter. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs with some pea-sized pieces.
Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a fork until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Gently pat it into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick, folding the dough over itself to create layers.
Using a biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet, close together.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top. Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter if desired.
