Soft, chewy, and infused with aromatic herbs, these breadsticks make the perfect side for any dinner, from pasta to soup, or even as a delightful snack on their own.
Ingredients
Scale:
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour, preferably unbleached
1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Sea salt, to taste
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is activated.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Mix well to ensure even distribution of the salt.
Once the yeast mixture is foamy, add it along with the olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until it forms a sticky dough.
Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin stick, about 8 inches in length.
Place the rolled breadsticks onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each stick.
In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Brush this mixture generously over the breadsticks.
Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese (if using) and sea salt on top of the brushed breadsticks.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
