These crispy, golden treats are perfect for any occasion, whether you're seeking a quick snack, a healthy dessert, or a fun way to enjoy apples with your family. The recipe beautifully combines the natural sweetness of apples with the warmth of cinnamon, creating a comforting flavor reminiscent of fall.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
Caramel dip or vanilla yogurt (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) for baked apple fries or heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C) for frying.
Peel, core, and slice the apples into 1/2-inch thick strips resembling traditional fries.
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk to create a wet batter.
Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
Dip each apple slice into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and finally roll it in the panko breadcrumbs.
Arrange the coated apple slices in a single layer on a baking tray lined with parchment paper if baking, or prepare them for frying.
If baking, place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. If frying, carefully place the coated apple slices in the hot oil and fry for 3-5 minutes until golden brown.
Remove the apple fries from the oven or fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.
