Turtle Candy with Pecans and Caramel is a delightful treat that brings together the richness of chocolate, the crunchiness of pecans, and the buttery sweetness of caramel. This homemade turtle candy recipe is not only indulgent but also surprisingly easy to make, making it a perfect choice for both seasoned bakers and beginners.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 cup of whole pecan halves
14 oz of soft caramel candies, unwrapped
2 tablespoons of heavy cream
12 oz of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Sea salt flakes (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the pecan halves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast them for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are fragrant and lightly toasted. Let them cool.
In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the unwrapped caramel candies and heavy cream. Stir continuously until the caramels are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
Arrange clusters of about 3-4 pecan halves on a baking sheet, forming a small circle. Spoon about a tablespoon of the melted caramel over each pecan cluster. Let them sit until the caramel has set.
In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is smooth and glossy.
Drizzle or spoon the melted chocolate over the caramel-covered pecans. Use a spatula to evenly spread the chocolate, if necessary.
If desired, sprinkle sea salt flakes over the chocolate while it is still wet.
Allow the candies to set at room temperature until the chocolate has hardened. For faster results, place them in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
