  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and blend until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed just until incorporated.
  6. Gently fold in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips (if using).
  7. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop heaping spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may look slightly underbaked.
