This hearty British classic brings together succulent sausages enveloped in rich, savory onion gravy, creating a meal that is both satisfying and flavorful.
Ingredients
Scale:
6-8 good quality sausages (pork or your choice of meat)
2 large onions, sliced thinly
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
2 cups beef or vegetable broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (optional, for thickening)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C) if youβre baking the sausages.
In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning them occasionally, until browned and cooked through.
In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil and butter. Once melted, add the sliced onions. Cook the onions over medium heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and caramelized.
If you want a thicker gravy, sprinkle the flour over the caramelized onions and stir well. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
Gradually pour in the beef or vegetable broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet to incorporate all the flavorful bits. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
Let the gravy simmer for about 5-10 minutes until it thickens slightly.
Return the sausages to the skillet, gently spooning the onion gravy over them. Let everything simmer together for an additional 5 minutes.
Serve the Easy Onion Gravy Sausages hot, spooning extra gravy over the sausages.
